Whether you’re heading into year 7 or year 11, moving to a new school, or returning to the same one, back-to-school season is a big deal. It’s a chance to start fresh, set new goals, and make this year your best yet. But with all the excitement can come a lot of pressure. Don’t worry, girl—I’ve got your back with some tips to help you navigate it all!
Get Your Sleep Routine On Point
First things first: SLEEP!! It might sound boring, but sleep is so important, especially when you’re juggling school, friends, and everything else. Getting into a good sleep routine now will help you feel more energized, focused, and ready to take on the day. Aim to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later when you’re not dragging yourself through your classes half-asleep!
Don’t Stress Over Acne and looking very demure, very stun, very impressive for school!
We all want to look our best, but don’t stress too much about things like acne or having the latest stuff to wear. It’s easy to feel pressured to have perfect skin (and we can’t control acne, it’s part of growing up!!) teenage hormones are raging at your age!! Don’t worry about wearing the trendiest clothes to school. Remember, school is about learning and growing, not a fashion show, gosh I sound like my mum now. 30 must be catching up on me!! Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. Your worth isn’t defined by the brands you wear or the condition of your skin. Focus on being kind to yourself and others, and everything else will fall into place.
Girls, for goodness sake – play the Game with Makeup and false nails 💅
I get it—you want to express yourself through your makeup and nails. But if you know the teachers are going to moan about it, sometimes it’s easier to just play the game. Stick to the school rules during the day, then let your creativity shine outside of school. Think of it this way: by conforming a little bit at school, you’re saving yourself the headache of constant battles with teachers. I mean, who can be bothered with the stress. I’ve been there and I was the same, but as I look back now – I think, it’s just not worth it. Plus, you’ll have more freedom to fully express yourself when you’re out with your friends or at home.
Watch Out for Online Bullying & stand up for others!
With social media like TikTok being such a big part of our lives, it’s important to remember that while it can be fun, it can also be a source of stress and negativity. Online bullying is real, and it can happen to anyone. If someone is leaving mean comments, spreading rumors, or making you feel bad about yourself online, remember that you don’t have to deal with it alone. Block or report the bullies, talk to someone you trust, and don’t let anyone make you feel less than you should. Social media should be a place where you uplift each other, not tear each other down and in a perfect world that would be the case, so just be wary 👀
Be Kind—To Others and Yourself 🌹
In a world where it’s so easy to compare yourself to others, especially online, kindness is everything. Be kind to yourself by not being too hard on yourself if things don’t go perfectly. And be kind to others—everyone is dealing with their own stuff, and a little kindness can go a long way. Whether it’s complimenting a friend, standing up for someone who’s being treated unfairly, or just being there when someone needs to talk, your kindness can make someone’s day and don’t let people be mean to you too!
For Year 11 Girls: Set Goals and Get Focused
If you’re in year 11, baby girl this is a crucial time. Set some goals for yourself, whether they’re related to your studies, personal growth, or even just enjoying your last year before the next big step. Get your head down and focus—this is the year that really counts for the ens of high school. But don’t forget to balance your work with some fun too. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where you’re working hard but not burning out. Your mental health and wellness is super important and exam season and revision can get really stressful! And let’s face it, it’s a lot of pressure. Whether that’s from yourself, parents, carers, teachers, friends.. you need to live life too! 🙏🏾
Starting Fresh: Embrace the New Year ⭐️
Whether you’re starting at a new school or returning to the same one, see this as a chance to start fresh. If last year wasn’t the best, leave it behind and look forward to what’s ahead. Be open to new friendships, new opportunities, and new experiences. Remember, every year of school is a new chapter, and you have the power to write it however you want. It’s literally YOUR life.
Final thoughts for the girlies: Going back to school is a mix of emotions, but you’ve got what it takes to make this year what you want it to be. Prioritise your sleep, don’t sweat the small stuff, and find a balance between following the rules and being yourself. Be mindful of your social media use, watch out for online bullying, and remember to be kind—to yourself and others. And if you’re in year 11, keep your eyes on the prize—this is your time to knuckle down. Gosh, I really do sound like the aunty going on! Im switching my hat from big sis Lol. But girl, you get what I’m saying because I care about you all 🩷
So, head back to school with confidence, knowing that you’re ready to take on whatever comes your way. You’ve got this, girl! I believe in you 🩷⭐️
